Here’s How to Treat Yourself Beyond Valentine’s Day
By: Jennielee Hilario Rivera
Valentine's Day is always filled with joy and happiness, as we celebrate it with those we love and care for. But who says you can’t celebrate love after Feb. 14 is over? This month is the perfect excuse for you to treat yourself and maybe even pamper yourself a bit too. Here are some ideas of how you can indulge in some self-care.
One of the most indulgent ways to treat yourself is to go shopping. Take this opportunity to splurge a bit and buy a special item such as a new outfit, shoes, jewelry, or a new gadget. If you are feeling overwhelmed, keep it simple by going to your local beauty store and getting yourself a spa treatment, your favorite facial mask, or a new makeup item. Nothing beats getting pampered every once and a while.
Another easy yet luxurious way to treat yourself is to start the day off by doing a full face spa at home. Prepare a bath with essential oils or bath salts, or use a facial steamer with your favorite essential oils to give your skin a deep steam cleanse. Then, massage your face with a face mask and let it rest for a few minutes. This is an amazing and beneficial way to relax and rejuvenate your skin. To take it even further, a couple of days before, find yourself a yoga studio or a meditation class. Even if it is a one-time session, it is a great way to relax and reconnect with yourself.
If all of the above ideas sound too complicated, then just do the simplest thing you can think of—take a break. Make sure you have some time to yourself to relax and disconnect from the world. Catch up on your favorite show, read a book, listen to some music, or write down your thoughts and feelings. This is the perfect way to give yourself the attention you deserve.
Surrounding yourself with friends, family, and telling them how much you care about them can also be an ideal way of celebrating this month of love. Whether you are able to meet them in person or via a digital call, take this time to open up, listen, and be compassionate with everyone. Giving and receiving is an important part of feeling supported and connected to our community. This may result in a feeling of appreciation and connection with those beloved to us.
The ideal opportunity to show yourself some extra appreciation and love is, of course, Valentine’s Day, but it doesn’t have to stop there. Get out of your comfort zone and create activities that make you feel alive. Buy yourself something special, take some time for rest and relaxation, and connect with who you are. Taking good care of ourselves is important beyond Feb. 14 and it is up to us to keep the fire burning all year round.
No matter how you chose to spend your Valentine's Day, I hope you took the time to treat yourself. Self-care is always important, so, go ahead and enjoy your own little celebration with some delicious treats, luxurious pampering, or just some me-time.
