Spring 2025: The Trends We’re Throwing Out, Keeping, and Loving Forever
BY: Atiya Dasté
The Ever-Changing World of Spring Fashion
Fashion moves fast, and what we swore we’d never stop wearing last spring might already be gathering dust in our closets. What a waste of a $300 Shein cart full of microtones and out of season sets, am I right? So, what’s officially out, what’s taking over, and what’s earned a permanent spot in our wardrobes? Let’s break it down.
What’s Out? (Trends we’re saying goodbye to—or at least giving a break)
The “Sex & the City” attempt
As one of my favorite shows is having a major renaissance, that comes with a late 90s fashion resurgence as well. The best thing about “Sex & the City” to me is the impracticality of it all. A 30-year-old writer who sometimes cannot afford rent is hiking up Manhattan in Manolos and a Birkin. Throughout the show, all of the characters explore fashion with their own wardrobes by layering and mix-matching, which can sometimes lead to something horrendously beautiful. It’s not just a sequin skirt and a flower heel, it’s executing the character’s many sides and the ever-changing mood of a woman. So yes, let’s please spare Candace Busnhell’s fantastic and Sarah Jessica Parker’s genius with the fast fashion martini glass tops. Sorry if that’s harsh.
Clean girl closets (Boring)
I love a sleek look as much as the rest of us, but labeling something “clean girl” ultimately means there’s an “unclean girl” out there—which I loathe. Minimalism is chic, but when it starts to feel like a personality trait, it loses its charm. This spring, we’re trading sterile, beige-heavy wardrobes for something with a little more character. Think playful textures, bold accessories, and outfits that feel lived-in rather than curated for a Pinterest board. Fashion should be fun and raw, not just aesthetic.
Animal Print Overload
Animal prints had their heyday, but they’re starting to feel a bit passé when overdone. Leopard print is my favorite because it’s sexy, fierce, and it's a statement. But it doesn’t have to wear you; you should be wearing it. This spring, we’re switching things up by incorporating prints in more subtle, sophisticated ways—think small, minimalistic accents like a zebra-striped belt or leopard print shoes rather than head-to-toe patterns. The wild side is still in, but it’s a lot less in-your-face.
What’s In? (The biggest trends taking over for Spring 2025)
Free the Nipple
A 2025 red carpet would make the 2004 “The View” panel choke. We owe Britney a MAJOR apology. In 2025, women are reclaiming the “nip slip” and revolutionizing the “free the nipple” movement on a much more casual scale. We all have ‘em. Last year’s sheer tops? We’re still here for them, but this spring, sheer layering is key—think sheer blouses over corsets or mesh dresses over shorts. I’m not saying to flash for beads like you’re at Mardi Gras, but don’t feel ashamed to use all of your god-given accessories. Kim Kardashan made the nipple bra for a reason!
Stanford Wife Realness
Goodbye to TikTok’s obsession with hyper-feminine coquetry; this spring, we’re all about a laid-back, vintage-inspired vibe. Picture polka dots, soft flowy skirts, and dreamy pastels. It’s a soft, playful approach to style that’s equal parts nostalgic and fresh. Think a flirty polka dot blouse paired with a classic chiffon neck scarf—like the Easter Bunny if she were a Gen Z influencer, effortlessly mixing sweet with chic. This trend is all about vintage vibes with a modern twist—soft, romantic, and totally you.
Stagecoach
This spring, we’re bringing the wild west to the city streets with a chic, bohemian twist. Less Americana but true “there’s not enough room for the two of us” Wild West. Think fringe leather jackets, suede skirts, and cowboy boots paired with flowy, prairie-inspired dresses. It’s the rugged spirit of Yellowstone meets carefree, festival-ready vibes. We’re talking statement belts, feathered accessories, and earthy tones, but in a way that feels polished and effortlessly cool. You’re channeling that cowgirl energy—minus the dusty ranch.
What’s Staying Forever? (Timeless pieces that never fail)
Denim on Denim
The ultimate classic that never goes out of style—denim on denim is staying forever, and we’re channeling Britney Spears in the late ‘90s and early 2000s for some iconic inspiration. Remember her unforgettable all-denim look with Justin Timberlake at the 2001 American Music Awards? That’s the energy we’re bringing back but with a modern, polished twist. Think tailored denim jackets paired with high-waisted jeans, or a chic denim skirt with a crop top. Whether you go for classic blue or mix in some white, black, or colored denim, it’s a foolproof, timeless look. Just like Britney’s style, denim on denim is all about confidence, versatility, and a little bit of playful edge. It’s never out, it’s just reinvented.
Black Boots
From ankle boots to knee-highs, black boots are the epitome of timeless footwear. They go with everything—dresses, skirts, jeans, and more. Whether it’s sleek leather or classic suede, black boots have a way of grounding any outfit and giving it a polished yet laid-back vibe. Versatile and practical, they’ll always be a staple that pairs well with every season.
As the seasons shift, so does the way we express ourselves through fashion. From saying goodbye to last year’s trends and embracing fresh, bold choices to solidifying the timeless staples we’ll never part with, spring 2025 is all about evolving and redefining our style. So, as you revamp your wardrobe this season, remember: fashion is about fun, confidence, and always making it your own. Let’s step into the new season with pieces that reflect who we are—past, present, and future. Here’s to making this spring our most stylish yet!
